Performance characteristics: colorless transparent monoclinic prismatic crystal, relative density 1.52, easily weathered in air and easily lost five molecules of crystal water to form heptahydrate (NAH PO4 7H2O), soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol. The aqueous solution is slightly alkaline (the pH of 0.11n solution is about 9.0). The crystal water is pushed at 100 ℃ to form anhydrous matter. It decomposes into sodium pyrophosphate at 250 ℃.

Uses: used as boiler water softener, flame retardant for fabric, wood and paper, glaze and solder, used in the production of detergent, cleaning agent for printing plate and mordant for dyeing. In the printing and dyeing industry, it is used as a stabilizer for hydrogen peroxide bleaching and a filler for rayon (to enhance the strength and elasticity of silk). It is not only a raw material for manufacturing sodium pyrophosphate and other phosphates, but also a culture agent for monosodium glutamate, erythromycin, penicillin, Streptomyces and sewage biochemical treatment products. It is also used in electroplating and tanning.
